IMHO, we should wait. I'm very, very skeptical about anything that MITA does (in fact, anything that any local government does, but I digress). We should first establish whether this is a true initiative or just an EU publicity stunt. Seeing as the EU pushes open source (refer to several open source programs such as TOSSAD) and here in Malta we're in bed with Microsoft, this may be just MITA saying to the EU, "Qed tara, we're doing something imbasta".
It will be interesting to see who shows up. Remember, we're the Malta LINUX user group - so we'd probably be considered (incorrectly so) the most extreme open source fans there - so anything we say may be taken lightly. I do not want this. So let's just see how it turns out. It seems the group is going to discuss OSS in general without delving into particular software. Sounds a lot to me like discussing alternative energy without mentioning any of the actual alternatives... Of course, this could just be my paranoia about IT within government, but believe me I have good reason to be so. Let's just wait and see what this REALLY is, then if it's anything good and worthwhile we'll present a case.
