Excellent work, Warren - let us not bicker amongst ourselves and remain united against closed software and the underhand tactics trying to kill Open Source (like Secure Booting, copyrighting everything etc. (if copyright was abused the way it is now when cars were being invented, we would still be driving the Model T Ford as nobody would have been able to 'copy' its 4 wheels, steering wheel, doors, seats, head-lamps, bumpers, top etc!)
As for some suggestions for the program, advocating the philosophy of open source is a sure interest killer for the average viewer, especially if you have very limited time to show anything else. So, painful as it is, be brave and skip it! Showing the KDE and / or 'Unity Desktop' will be appealing to the younger generation (even if I, personally, hate them!) or perhaps Gnome with Compitz effects (I particularly like to show off the revolving cube, which may be a bit of a cliché for those who are used to it but an attention grabber to those who only know Windows, and the "Ring Switcher"). Live distributions will also be novel to windows users and how you can use them for demonstrations, to rescue other systems including windows, to have a 'non-corruptible' Operating System even on a pen-drive, to try out different distros and even to 'upgrade' from one live distro to another (just change the CD :). The ease of installation of not just the OS but also of its suite of programmes, simply by choosing that distribution that has them as defaults can be mentioned. I would avoid comparing Linux to any other operating system, but just praise it as it is, a great alternative that can be tried with everything to gain and nothing to loose. Of course, you will mention that most of it is free (of charge). However, one important message, in my opinion, is that 'free' does not mean 'low quality', and here one can mention several countries and large corporations that use Linux and OSS as their primary software. Last but not least, you could mention the friendly group of people there are (i.e. us) always ready to help a newbie take the plunge into the world of OSS. - Just my penny's worth - Effie DISCLAIMER: ---------- No trees were harmed in the generation of this e-mail.
