I have a desktop with a similar issue. Does not like Ubuntu. problem is
on my station all versions except for the 7.04 and 7.10 will not work.

Btw the flashing leds is usually a kernel Panic as someone mentioned
earlier in the thread. This can be related to RAM also so maybe running
memtest86 for a few hours should be of some help.

Now you also mentioned 2000 will not work anymore which can signify a
hardware failure of some type. Linux is especially prone to hardware
issues.
