I installed Ubuntu on my Dell Studio laptop from scratch (I do not believe in
"upgrades"). I am very happy. The new Intel driver alone has made my laptop
much faster. I like how they've improved the startup and shutdown times, too.

So far, 9.10 feels like a very well-tuned and polished version of 9.04. I like
how easy it is to install Flash and Java plug-ins now.

Some problems: I like a fresh session when I log in, but somehow Gnome has
remembered my previous session even though it shouldn't have according to my
preferences. It is ignoring the settings. Same thing with VLC -- it's supposed
to turn off the screen saver yet after ten minutes or so, the image dims and
turns off. Annoying...

Some good things: 25 minutes to install, which included a manual partition
table layout.

Very impressed!

Chris
