Open source is increasingly being used both as a cost-cutting measure
and as a search for better bang for the computing buck. RedHat is
positioning itself as a blue chip computing services provider, much like
IBM with their hugely expensive 'smart' campaign.

Of course, most older business models that are still around will use it
as a cost cutting measure. As the world economy treads water and
struggles to find a foothold, expectations of material "well being" are
already changing rapidly. We've recently seen bandwidth restrictions
(see an MLUGer's message from today about Rogers and android), attacks
on Google's attempt to publish books and newspaper articles
electronically for free, and other hindrances to the free flow of
information.
