Debian also tends to be more strict with the 'freeness' of its offerings. I kind of consider Ubuntu to be Debian without a conscience :) So if closed-source/non-free software is important, I'd recommend you use Ubuntu. If you're more of a staunch believer in FOSS or are looking for a stable server solution I'd go with Debian.
Aside from that, Alex is right. They're more or less the same. Ubuntu makes things easier to configure for the average end user. Since I've grown up on Slack and Debian I actually find it a little bit frustrating using Ubuntu's config utilities because I'm really most comfortable with modifying configurations on the terminal with a text editor. All that GUI stuff can get in the way sometimes... Then again if you're already used to Fedora and Ubuntu I'm betting you'll probably prefer those distros over Debian. ... I'm not a very good FOSS advocate am I? :P Dan On 11 July 2010 18:28, Alex Bedard <[email protected]> wrote: > > > On 11/07/2010 5:22 PM, Leslie S Satenstein wrote: > > If you use debian, how does it compare against Ubuntu, and Fedora which > I use.
