In my fstab, there was a parameter called defaults, I appended a noauto as defaults,noauto to various lines and yes, the drives no longer appear automounted. But as I can't do a mount via gnome. For example, selecting the drive in the places drop-down menu, I get a popup occurs to say that I am not authorized to do a mount, only root can do it, but I do not (as I do in Fedora) get a prompt to provide the root password. Am I wrong to assume that Debian is really just for server use.
