It used to be people would just put up a photo gallery app on a web
server, and that was enough. I'm thinking about putting up a disapora
pod. Is that a reasonable way to go? It's Alpha... hmm... just
stick with some gallery app? What to people do for this sort of thing
nowadays?

For about 10 yrs now, I'm using Apache::Gallery <http://apachegallery.dk> ( http://apachegallery.dk/ ) with some kind of "security" provided by .htaccess ( I know, I know...) on the server at home. Basically a little udev rule looks for photos on the inserted usb devices, copy them to a directory with the name "todaysdate" (YYYY_MM_DD) and all of those directories are available under Apache::Gallery <http://apachegallery.dk>. It's not a very fancy, web 2.0, flashy thing, but it works fairly good and I'm happy with it (I don't take indecent/compromising pictures, so I'm usually ok with this setup)
