UEFI as implemented by MS is obliging hardware vendors to cater to one organization. UEFI is not a consensus solution. Lockout of other vendors is a fallout because of a bad UEFI design.

That said, one should be able to purchase a add-in card that is UEFI compliant, does not defeaut the UEFI protection, but is one level closer to the operating system. This add-in card or software will be UEFI compliant, with open keys. Using this interface, I believe it will be possible for any operating system to interface with UEFI mother boards.

My other thought about UEFI is that it is going to come back to bite MS badly. Once there are 100 million softwares out there, we will find a UEFI bug in MS code that will force a complete reinstall. I can see it now.

If you make very complex solutions, the problems that arise are very complex, as are the solutions. To that end, a complex solution will take time to develop and test, and that is where MS will get stung.

We will wait and see. Perhaps I am wrong. But note. UEFI bioses are first generation of generation 1.1. time for it to also experience future bugs and bug fixes..

Do you guys think this will open up a world of "black market" machines from China etc with unlocked BIOSes? I assume someone will also figure out a hack like they do on playstation etc so we will be able to disable it.
