I started with Fedora 6, and have been a follower for all the updates.

I also have Debian, Ubuntu, Lint and Centos as partitions distributed across
two computers.
If I boot one system, I stay with it for a day. Actually, Fedora is 3 days per
week and the others one day per week.

yum is similar to apt-get     sudo yum update  or sudo yum install.

Like the other systems, mentioned, there is a gui update and a gui add/remove
software.

Subject: [MLUG] gotchas for refugee from ubuntu/debian-land new to Fedora?

Hi all,

This morning, I've installed Fedora 17 (LXDE edition) on my desktop.
I've run only debian derivatives (mostly ubuntu and crunchbang). I've
been running linux exclusively since 2005.

The ways of those who talk of yum and rpms are strange and unfamiliar
to me. As I suspect other MLUG'ers have gone from ubuntu (or at least
debian-based) to Fedora, I am hopeful that some wisdom can be shared
to help me avoid the painful bits of the process. Anything I can watch
out for that folks with my transition tend to stumble over?

Not sure it matters, but the reasons I moved are mainly that 1) ubuntu
is less and less a happy fit as they target someone who is less and
less like me (a terminal is my command-launcher of choice) even if you
put aside the whole unity thing, 2) (the most excellent) crunchbang
will stay on my netbook, but I want my desktop to be on something with
better backing than a mostly one man show can provide, and 3) since I
was changing up anyway, a big shift seemed worthwhile, and 4) fedora's
"first" value appeals.

Best,

Brian vdB
