I agree with you here. It's not like my trusty old hammer is obsolete because I 
own a fancy new rapid fire compressed air nail gun. I don't want belt-fed nails 
dangling off my hammer when I'm putting one nail in a tight spot, when the 
power is out.

FOSS is about choice, diversity, options. ie. C(++) pun intended.

Speaking of which, hands up how many people are enjoying gnome3!
