PC World, I believe, has the copyright.
I'm not sure what you intended to say, but in case you were referring to
possible legal issues with the logo, note that whether it's competing in
the same field or not is irrelevant to copyright (it's relevant to
trade marks instead).

Trade marks, copyrights, and patents are very different beasts. Do not
let yourself be bullied by those who want to confuse you with terms like
"intellectual property" (which should probably be called
"government-issued monopoly" instead anyway).

I agree Stefan. When it comes to logos, everything about the logo is usually trademarked, so it can be broken down if needed.

For the Intel Inside logo, everything is trademarked - the words "Intel Inside", the "swoosh", the "color", and even the typeface font. (Want a quick chuckle, look up trademarks under Wikipedia, you'll be amazed at what is already trademarked) It's up to Intel whom to sue for infringement. Satire is permitted (tried and won in court), however, using it for advertising of your own product is not.

I wonder what McDonald's would say if another business decided to use their letter M as part of their logo.

The "Jesus Inside" law suit http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/21/god_violates_intel_trademark/ Intel has also sued "Yoga Inside" - seems they go after anything where the word "inside" follows another word.

Monster Cable is doing the same crap - suing anything using the word "Monster" since they trademarked it.

Linux has helped improve Intel's image over the years by showing that their hardware was never the real problem. It was Microshaft's shitty software that was causing PC's to crash after a few days usage. Remember the old he said she said blame games M$ and Intel used to play. When Linux came on the scene and machines started having outrageous uptimes (hundreds of days, and eventually surpassing a year or more without issue), proved Intel was correct. So maybe they have a soft spot for Linux. :)
