Hi, I was gifted the starter pack from adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1014 . It's a good check list of things you may need or want.
However, the minimum I would recommend to buy with it is: - A micro USB cable (Can be used to power the Pi from a powered USB hub) - A 5V 1A USB power adapter (Use your USB cable with this adapter to power the Pi) - A 4GB SD Card (The one from ada is a micro sd card with an adapter...) - Some kind of sd card reader to copy files from the PC for the initial installation. - Ethernet cable - HDMI Cable - Maybe required: DVI-D to HDMI adapter (To connect a computer monitor) - A case This was the minimum I needed to power the unit and do anything. I would recommend a powered USB hub as those 2 USB ports are not enough if you intend to use a wireless USB adapter. I got this USB hub which seems to be recommended for the Pi: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0035LXOPY/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Many Pi threads mentioned that it is important to have a USB hub that can supply 5V 2A. Regarding connecting the Pi to a display, I had to do a lot of research because I wasn't sure how I would connect it to a display with no HDMI or RCA connector. You can find HDMI to VGA adapters but these are not recommended and may damage your unit. I found this information on the Raspberry Pi forum as a few users reported problems with those. You could get one of those digital to analog converter box, but these tends to be more expensive than the Raspberry Pi. The easiest solution I found was to make sure my LCD supported DVI-D, and simply get a HDMI to DVI adapter. I use it with the HDMI cable and it works perfectly, but there is no audio obviously. From what I read, it's possible to get the audio from the regular stereo jack even with the HDMI being used for display, but I haven't tested it. -- Ravnox On Tue, 27 Aug 2013 21:30:32 -0400 Patricia Campbell <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello All, > > I've found a place to order the devices which has been recommended to > me https://canada.newark.com/ @ $25 each.
