Hi
This is my experience as well. Ardour is better for capture as it plays
nice with jack . For final mixes and editing Audacity rocks.
Are you using a distribution with a kernel optimized for audio
processing such as AV Linux or Ubuntu Studio? Your latency problems may
result from a stock kernel being too fair.
If you do not need a portable recorder and have a decent microphone, I
saw a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 on Kajiji for $100 the other day this
device is awesome for sound capture. It has town hybrid 1/4"/ XLR
inputs and plays very well with Linux Jack stack.

Hi
I've been using Audacity for years, it's not bad until you start
trying to play previous recorded layers and record a new one.
Sometimes I get lucky and it works, but other times I get some latency
which causes the new track to be out of phase.
I setup Ardour, and that worked really nice. I was playing around
with it and got it to layer nicely.
However, finding trouble when it comes to trimming waves. I just have
dug in deeper to find the tool if it exists.
Audacity is very easy to edit and fix data. Ardour definitely takes
some time to master.
How is the Zoom H5, I was looking for a recorder, saw a few out
there. Does it pop or clip while recording?

Hi Jeremy
PSC=Point Saint Charles. Weekends are good for me. I'll check off
list if there is interest. I thought all the cool kids use Ardour.
I'm an Audacity hold out too, I'm in way too deep by now.
Cheers

Hi Alan,
Unfortunately I am further away now, up in Deux-Montagnes.
Like you I usually record on my Zoom h5 then import the wav to work
on. Use audacity a lot :)
For me to do any get together it would have to be a weekend most
likely, but you never know.
PSC? Pluripotent Stem Cell?

Hey Jeremy
It's been a while are you still in Verdun?
I am no expert but I've set up a few people on Ubuntu Studio. One a
Windows user has since migrated himself to AV Linux. It was an
interesting experience setting him up. The tools in Window look so
much better but he was ecstatic having only a subset of the
functionality with no latency.
I just set up my daughter on Ubuntu Studio using a Focusrite
Scarlett 2i4 for sound capture. It is pretty amazing. I usually use
an old Tascam DP-01FX for capture and then just import to U-Studio
for mixing. I do from time to time capture directly to U-Studio if
I want to pump my old Korg MS-20 through super looper or something
like that. I would be happy to host a Linux music geek get
together at some point. If there is interest. I'm PSC.

Hi Alan,
I've done some, but not very recently. Used Ubu Studio mostly.
However, I've set up JACK on many systems and played with most of
the bigger apps. Certainly can't teach much but would be
interested in messing around with it more.

Hello
Been a long time since I've posted. I'm just wondering if there
are any other list members that are making music on Linux( Ubuntu
studio, AV Linux, KXStudio etc). If so is there interest in
getting together at some point to trade tips and tricks, compare
setups etc..
Cheers
