Edison Manurung, MSIE Although you may be able to get assistantship/scholarship while you are studying at a master program in the U.S., as a rule of thumb, in the U.S. it is easier to get an assistantship if you study at Ph.D. level (NOT master level). Please apply directly to the university/program you are choosing. Many Ph.D. assistantships that allow you to study for free are available in the U.S.. Unfortunately, only few Indonesians got such an assistantship. Most direct assistantships from U.S. universities go to Indian and Chinese nationalities. Indonesians prefer to get assistantships from their employers (Depdikbud, Bappenas, etc.) or scholarship organizations such as Fulbright and Ford Foundation. Having said that, I would like to remain you that meeting the minimum requirements to enter a Ph.D. program will not guarantee you to get an assistantship/scholarship. You must get high scores on: 1. Grade Point Average (GPA) / "Index Prestasi," 2. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 3.
