I think that's only true if all of your answers are the same length. For
example, consider a "define this foreign word" flashcard and a
"translate this sentence" flashcard -- even if you knew both equally
well, you'd probably spend longer reciting the translated sentence.

I find that the different passing grades don't have a significantly
different affect on the scheduling, so if simplifying the user interface
is your primary goal, you could probably just slave incorrect/correct
buttons to 0/4. I probably wouldn't use a user interface like that on a
regular computer, but I might use it on a smaller device.
