Agreed - while it's nice to occasionally be reminded of your 'absolute' progress through your chosen subject, I think any extra numbers than necessary would simply help to distract from the job at hand - learning the subject matter. This is what status views and such are for (Show statistics -> Grades). Before and after a session, you can have a peek and take heart in your progress, but the extra information shouldn't be in your face during the session. The most I would want to see added would maybe be a subtle visual cue (e.g. progress bar somewhere) indicating the ratio of (remaining scheduled/total scheduled at start of session) like in Pauker, or in your case the ratio (memorised/total cards). But not everyone would want either of these. Maybe it's already done in a plugin?
