Hello! First time caller, long-time listener.

I am interested in analyzing the data from the torrent of users'
learning logs
(see post here:
http://groups.google.com/group/mnemosyne-proj-users/browse_thread/thread/5f7ede5242badc9f).

In that thread, there are links to incomplete explanations of what
different values in log.txt lines mean. I'd love it if someone could
give us a clearer breakdown of what the values are.

For instance, when "database" is mentioned, three numbers follow.
Example: 2010-12-09 08:00:09 : Loaded database 2 0 10
It seems that the "2" reflects the number of cards scheduled, the "0"
reflects the number of cards not yet learned, and the "10" is the
total deck size. Please let me know if I'm wrong about any of those.

On rehearsals, I'm much more confused.
Example: 2010-12-09 08:01:39 : R 5652cdec 3 2.36 | 3 1 0 3 1 | 1 1 | 6
1 | 75.7

The "R" denotes a rehearsal event, the "5652cdec" is an arbitrary FC
ID created as a hash of the data, the "3" is the grade the learner
reported, and the "2.36" is the (updated?) easiness parameter value
for that FC. So far, so good.

Then 5 numbers follow. I understand those to be (1) the number of
acquisition repetitions, (2) the number of retention repetitions, (3)
the number of lapses, (4) the number of acquisition repetitions since
the last lapse, and (5) the number of retention repetitions since last
lapse. Still makes sense.

Lastly, there are two pairs of numbers, and then a number that seems
to range from 0 to very high (I've seen 8903.6 on just the first log I
looked at). Here's where I'm getting really confused.

It seems to me that the two pairs of numbers have something to do with
how long it's been since the last repetition and/or when the next
scheduled repetition is. But through examining other people's logs
and deliberately manipulating "dummy" FC sets of my own, I haven't
been able to figure out what's what.

For example, here are some log.txt entries for a single FC:

2008-11-25 08:00:09 : New item 4902988d 1 0
2008-11-25 08:02:16 : R 4902988d 4 2.50 | 2 0 0 2 0 | 0 1 | 1 1 | 48.8
2008-12-06 10:28:46 : R 4902988d 2 2.34 | 2 1 0 2 1 | 2 11 | 6 1 | 6.0
2008-12-13 09:08:38 : R 4902988d 4 2.34 | 2 2 0 2 2 | 7 7 | 16 0 | 3.9
2009-01-05 07:24:01 : R 4902988d 3 2.20 | 2 3 0 2 3 | 16 23 | 16 -3 |
17.6
2009-01-18 13:36:39 : Deleted item 4902988d

Basically, a new card was formed and given an initial grade of "1".
Upon rehearsal, it was graded "4". 11 days later, it was given a
"2". 7 days after that, a "4", and 23 days after that, a "3". Then
it was deleted.

The 2nd number of the first pair (here, 1, 11, 7, and 23) seems to be
the number of days since last rehearsal, except it returns an
understandably nonsensical "1" on the first rehearsal.

I *suspect* that the 1st number of the 2nd pair (here, 1, 6, 16, and
16) gives the next scheduled rehearsal (in days), and the 2nd number,
2nd pair is a randomization factor ranging from [-3, 3]. Can anyone
confirm or disconfirm those guesses?

That last number of each line (here, 48.8, 6.0, 3.9, and 17.6), I'm
totally clueless about.

If someone can give a clear explanation of what those values
represent, it would make my heart leap for joy in this holiday
season. :)

Thanks!
-Matt
