That's an inherent limitation of the design of 1.x. In 2.0, the card browser should be much faster, as it does not need to have the entire database in memory. If you want to try it out and you don't need to rely on prebuilt installers, follow the instructions here to play around with 2.0: http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org/hacking.php It will automatically import your 1.x deck. Don't use the 2.0 code for real, though, there could still be some changes to the db format before the first alpha. I'd be interested in your feedback!
