Here is a fresh example, and it is parallel to a previous experience. I show only the relevant cloze elements, omitting the surrounding text. Original text = [consumerist] lifestyles Edited text = [consumerism] Upon display of the card after editing, the Q had "consumerism" instead of [...] for the cloze element (that is, nothing was blank in the Q), while the A had the original term "consumerist." In the card browser, the Q column contained the correctly edited text [consumerism] while the A column still had the original "consumerist." In all cases, the deleted word "lifestyles" was gone; only the contents of the cloze box was confused. I then tried several dummy edits: add a space at the end of the card, after the ], and after "consumerism."
