Why would you expect this 3 day period? Why It doesn't make sense?

The memory intervals used in SM2 algorithm, according to the author,
were used based on small studies he made on Q&A pairs, so he found out
how long would the second interval be necessary in order to remember
with 10% forgetting probability. With was not made on some empirical
assumption. Later, the author, Dr. Wosniak, would test out if the
intervals were indeed correct. I would argue that this intervals are
the best for any kind of information, I would even argue the whole
spaced repetition theory. But what I can`t argue is if there is a more
efficient way to test and maintain previously learned material.

I'd like to see what you think about this, and why specially know if
you are interested in some kind of research concerning this type of
spacing algorithms?
