Wow, didn't see that one coming! These are the two queries that I used to replace the single complex query. It suggests that earlier it did not hang on that singly complex query, but rather kept on executing it repeatedly.
I have to think in more detail about what this means and how to best tackle it, but sqlite is probably off the hook for now. (A bug in sqlite would indeed have been surprising, because it's considered to be one of the most stable pieces of software around...)
Anyway, this bug hunt is proving to be a very interesting detective story with lots of wild goose chases :-) Thanks again for sticking with me and for your relentless debugging reports!
