For your information, the bug is not related to sqlite, but rather to 
another old favourite of mine, timezone issues. That should also be the 
reason why I could not reproduce this on my machine.

I'm pretty sure I worked around the issue, although I don't yet understand 
the root cause of the problem. Therefore, this version prints some debug 
information when it first encounters the conditions that trigger this bug, 
so I'd be happy if you could send me a few of those cases, as well as 
mention in what timezone you are.
