If you have a subfolder 'mnemosyne' in your mnemosyne program folder on your usb key, Mnemosyne will use this folder as its datadir when the program is started from usb key. This is to avoid having to use the '-d' command line argument.

Also, if you don't have this subfolder, Mnemosyne will by default always look first in C:\users\...\Application Data...

If you always use the -d argument explicitly (or always use 'file - open' when starting the program), then there should be no confusion about what directory Mnemosyne is using.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi,

I think I know now what caused my missing media file error (and various other
problems, e.g. unintended, automatic change to back > front).
It seems to be based on my specific set-up. Usually I start Mnemosyne from my
Dropbox folder. But sometimes I make a 1:1 copy to a USB key. (At work, I'm not
allowed to install any programs on my workstation). Because I don't want to
loose my progress I then copy my mnemosyne folder back to Dropbox.
I thougt there would be no problem doing it this way. But I found out I get all
sorts of errors (e.g. Mnemosyne does start from USB key totally blank without
displaying any cards, so one has to start mnemosyne from default.db, not as
usually directly using the .exe file)
Altough, I'm pretty sure that my specific set-up caused my problems, I still have no
explanation why it shouldn't work this way (Dropbox folder > Copy to USB-Key >
Dropbox folder). Peter? Anyone?

Hi,

Something must have changed in your directory layout or dropbox setup,

I guess..

* when exactly do you get that error?

* do you provide a -d argument when you start Mnemosyne to set a

custom data directory? If so, which?

* what is the full path to your database? Please double check you are

indeed using the database you think you are using, by doing 'file -

open' and reopening it.

* for a card with missing media, what is the full text on it?

* what is the full path of the media file you want to reference on that card?

Hi,

Problem: My media files are not shown anymore. I get the error

message "Missing media file!".

But ALL my media files are still there. Has this occurred before? Is

there a known solution?

I haven't changed any settings or location (Starting Mnemosyne from

my Dropbox directory).
