Hi Peter, Thanks for your response. The database was on my laptop's hard drive, not a USB, and it is the latest version of Mnosyne.
Because of VPN issues I was having difficulty accessing Google groups in order to read your reply, so in my impatience I uninstalled the program (after copying the files to a USB) and then reinstalled it.
