I certainly see why you wouldn't disable this feature when it has been well 
established. Looking back at 1.1, it seems those buttons didn't react to Alt+2 
etc at all at that time, while Ctrl+2 etc worked for initial grading. (I was 
coincidentally reminded of the Ctrl functionality just now, when a tip 
mentioning it popped up in 2.5.)

I may look into your keyboard layout suggestion, thanks again!
