Thank you for the response. When I run the commands you listed, Mnemosyne
opens up as expected, but the output in Terminal is clearly some kind
of error message.
I have copied that output below:

When reviewing cards normally, no further terminal output occurs.
If, however, I click to "browse cards" or "edit" a card with audio and then
click "preview", I get the following message:
