You can do this in a terminal like you described, or you can navigate there
using Finder, and just drag and drop the folder to your desktop, for
example.
For the app volume questions - if you don't know, then probably you
shouldn't have any issues :)
Did you try any older versions? I think I got the impression this was more
to do with the Catalina upgrade than the Mnemosyne version upgrade, right?
I'm pretty sure the error is
QProcess: Destroyed while process
