Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the note!

You should make sure your users are setting the OS proxy settings as well as
Firefox's internal Gecko preferences. Firefox for Android straddles two worlds,
and the Android part doesn't use Gecko's proxy settings. (See
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=507641 -- particularly my last
comment.)

Careful, this is a rabbit-hole. GeckoView depends on Gecko (naturally), and so
trying to switch to a different build system might end up being frustrating.
Furthermore, most of the size is stuff you can't cut out: libxul.so alone is
13MB in my dev build. But I'm sure we'll be trying to trim the fat wherever we
can.

There is some interest within the Firefox mobile team for including some of
this kind of functionality in Firefox itself, whether that be through an easier
interface (accessible through GeckoView, through distributions, or just
simplifying derivative browsers), or through including the actual feature
itself so that a broader audience stands a chance of using it.

If you ever find yourself asking "why isn't this in Firefox?", let us know!
