The plan is to migrate the retention and churn aspects of the Adjust ping to Unified Telemetry (UT), which should be capable of handling those tasks. Currently, UT is not operational on Firefox for Android or iOS, so Adjust is our short term stopgap. Within reason, we expect in-house Mozilla systems to handle as much of these requirements as possible. > > In general, I think we should always be thinking "what's the minimum >> amount of data I need to collect to get a good-enough answer to my >> question". >> > > Yes, that's the right question to ask. > The Adjust pings send a very small set of data, which is aggregated and deleted on the server. Winston Bowden created an excellent summary of the way the data is collected and handled in this post: https://lists.mozilla.org/pipermail/dev-platform/2015-May/010065.html Nick Alexander also wrote up some of the technical details here: https://gecko.readthedocs.org/en/latest/mobile/android/base/fennec/adjust.html > > On top of that, users have a *right* to their data and not to be tracked. > Even if you have useful questions you want answered, you might still not > get them. Agreed, and since Mozilla considers the Adjust collection to be in the same realm as FHR, you can opt-out using the FHR setting.
