Thanks for taking the time to come up with this - I really appreciate it. I'm ever more convinced that the thread thing is going to be a very sticky problem, and that some serious work will have to be done to fix things.
More than likely, these fixes will go into Rivet, as I imagine that they will be fairly extensive, and time is limited. At this point, Rivet is also not undergoing lots of changes (we run it on tcl.apache.org). I would highly recommend that people start giving it a try under the windows environment. I have a suspicion that The Answer may be to develop an apache 2.0 port for the windows folks, as the apache/windows guys seem to be much more enthusiastic about that system.
