Well, I tried your suggestion on one of the apps in my dev environment and, you're right, converting to MG2 configuration is just that simple.
It doesn't solve the larger issue of why a MG1.1 configured app does not show the debugging information on top of the MG2 framework. However, since I'll only likely be looking at that debug information when I'm doing active development, I'll just take that time to tweak the configuration. Thanks.
