Interesting discussions folks. I think Dan's idea of a truly
front-end framework agnostic ORM adapter is a good one in theory (and
I like theory), but I also agree with Dennis that there may be little
actual desire for such an animal. I'm not very familiar with the
other major players (i.e., Mach-II and Coldbox), but I imagine that
they already have something similar in place, and if each framework
already has their own, who's going to be interested in a new framework
agnostic one?

Perhaps ORM authors would like the idea, as they could develop an
adapter that could then be used with any framework, but honestly, with
Hibernate being integrated into CF and Railo, is anyone going to build
another CF ORM?

Regarding the metadata currently used for ORMs in MG, I humbly suggest
that if Dennis, Sean and I have all been a bit bewildered by the
current model (sorry Sean if I'm putting inaccurate words in your
mouth), perhaps its design isn't optimal. Maybe it just does need to
be properly documented (thanks Dennis for volunteering), but perhaps
once documented it may become evident that it could be improved upon.
Then a decision would have to be made whether to build a CF-Hibernate
adapter using the current metadata model, or whether to create a new
model, and then port that back onto the Reactor and Transfer adapters.
I'm guessing the latter isn't likely to happen, but if it seems like
a good idea, then maybe that's when a framework agnostic adapter could
come in handy.
