Well I tried, but hildon-fm is really strongly modelled on the old
gtkfilesystem/gtkfilechooser API/ABI. There are some things which are
 problematic:
 - this API/ABI was and is still internal only, so it might break
   again in subsequent Gtk+ releases
 - maemo might keep Gtk+ 2.12 forever, since Qt is in the works
 - the API/ABI was heavily rewritten due to filechooser work and the
   move to GIO

The API/ABI doesn't map one to one, and it would require at least one
or two weeks of solid development and testing to move to the new
models. The resulting code in hildon-fm would probably be a mess to
maintain too if it uses conditionals heavily -- and that would be for
Gtk+ 2.13 support which isn't in their current platform... :-/
