I'm generally open to all types of music but I don't know if I speak for some
people on the list by saying I hate techno.

i think thats somewhat a harsh statement..maybe a generality....it really
strongly depends what you are exposed to...in all seriousness if you've heard
a chem bros. song and say that techno sucks...its the same as hearing some
boring corp. rock song and saying that rock sucks.....i live in wilmington,
delaware---where most kids listen to hip-hop or dave matthews and barenaked
ladies....electronica is going to be a force to reckon with in the future....a
lot of techno is trash...but some of it is really good work...maybe techno
causes many to cringe...i certainly dont like the word too much either....but
a lot of artists who have been branded as techno are worth more respect than
the blacklisted label delivers....buy the mogwai remix record and you'll see
what i mean...buy a pre-outpost dj spooky record and you'll see what i
mean...though spooky isnt techno....hes surely electronica in some
respect....anyway....i can understand youre displeasure with techno.... i was
recently in la and noticed that every damn store i went into had mediocre
"techno" type trash playin through the walls...but in de where "techno" and
"electronica" and all its other forms are soo foreign that i am the stranger
for being interested in it drives me to delve into it more....i suppose, as
with all art, everything is relative...relative to yr "locale" as well as yr
mindset...but ill tell ya what.....you know what yr grandchildren are going to
be listening to?.....techno... so learn to appreciate some of it..so you all
arent nasty old curmudgeons... stuck in yr ways , still dusting off LONG DRIVE
and playin it for the youngsters...talkin about " this is what we listened to
in my day".... though i must say, i will be sighing along with you, still
humming to dramamine.....
matt.
