I'm new to the list...so maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but the way I
see success is as a double edged sword.  You can make it work for you or
you can  ruin everything.  Many bands have used their success to help
take their music to a new level.  Look at the who, and the Beach boys.
DO you think Pet SOunds would have ever been made if they had stayed
small.  Sure, some artists get absorbed in their success.  Take Soul
Asylum for example, once a great bar band now can't right for crap.  I
think it's impossible to speculate how Modest Mouse will react to
success, and the major label.  THey could use their success to open new
doors in their music, or maybe they'll sell out.  But our
speculating won't change a thing.

It seems pointless to me to argue so much over something that hasn't
happened yet.
