i've been getting negative responses to my post about downloading the new
Modest Mouse illeally. and you're totally right. it was stupid as hell to
post that on the mailing list. i guess i just find it hard to believe that
anyone really cares about pirating Modest Mouse albums. i mean, you wouldnt
believe how many versions of the latest pavement album or the new yo la
tengo were out there way before they came out. meanwhile everyone is all up
in arms about Napster.
anyway, with my post, i was trying to let everyone know that there are
plenty ways of getting albums, even if your college has banned Napster. the
only way anyone can get caught is if they are using an absurdly high
bandwidth at their college or something, and then only if the school pursues
that and identifies it as an FTP/MP3 violation.
and if you are simply reluctant to rip off Modest Mouse, just delete the
mp3s and buy the album like i do.
but like i said before, you're right. i suppose it would be best if no one
paid attention to my previous post. i think i misjudged the situation; im
used to using e-mail for my illegal MP3 dealings, but i didnt realize that
this was a more public forum.
so, just do your own thing when it comes to getting the album; buy it in
june, trade for it on the Internet, borrow and tape it off a friend's copy,
steal it, kill for it, or even FTP it. just don't post anything about it
unless you wanna fuck up the pirating "industry".
