"...but i do have a masters degree in medical biology and i work in developmental neurobiology at a major medical university. to say "ANY amount of alcohol ingested during pregnacy will damage your child in some way" is an absurd generalization and twisting of the facts regarding fetal development.... ....i'm not saying go down a pint of vodka after the first trimester, merely stating that you never quite get all the facts from a pamphlet or even a medical school class." SO since we're talking about where babies come from, why don't we discuss where facts come from, too? I swear I can't win for losing. My only purpose in posting some quotes was to lend some element of creedance to my opinion instead of chiming in with a "Yeah-drinking-during-pregnancy-is-bad" message. Now I know that statistics can be made to state just about anything, but the non-profit organization from which I quoted made it explicitly clear in their documentation that there is no absolute minimum amount of alcohol that must be ingested before damage can occur. According to them, they simply don't know what amount must be ingested before the harmful effects can be accurately gauged. So perhaps in overgeneralizing, they are saying a pound of prevention is worth an ounce of cure, no? But if we can't get the facts from pamphlets published by non-profit organizations or medical school class, who exactly do we trust in the field of medicine? Yes, I know I learned that Christopher Columbus discovered America even though he did not. More falsehoods spread by our education system. I guess my opinion comes down to this: I quoted those sources because they have done much more research on the topic than I have conducted in my own home. I don't take everything I read to heart as gospel, but I do know that if the bottle says "do not exceed 100 pills in a 60-second interval," I'm not going to consume 99 in 59 seconds and think it a wise decision. That research is conducted for a reason, and I think I would trust their conclusions before I'd gamble on the health and welfare of a developing fetus. But hey, it's not MY body, right? *phiL* __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/
