I wrote to the guy who wrote the Spin review, asking why he would 
review an album by a band that he admits to "not getting", and here 
is his response:

Thanks for your note, I just wanted to clear up 
something, I don't 'get' 
Modest Mouse's popularity. I 'get' their music 
just fine, and liked it in 
1996. Since then I think they've written the 
same song a hundred times over, 
and I don't think Brock has really changed his 
perspective much.I don't find 
them any more interesting or relevant than 
almost any of the other bands in 
the Northwest scene from which they've emerged. 
Yet they've gotten huge. I 
prefer Love as Laughter or old Lync records. I 
just like 'em more.
