That combination works for me.

Which other configure scripts?  You give that parameter to the Apache
configure script.

I have not had any trouble using the perl rpm that came with the
system (RH6.0 in my case).  Make sure you also have the gdbm and
gdbm-devel rpms installed, even if you don't use gdbm.  There have
been reports of confusion if they are missing.
