yup. as I understand it, as the mods slowly faded away (or at least dropped
in numbers) towards the mid 60s, there was a sub-subculture (if that makes
any kind of sense) of the mods who acted as the missing link, if you, will
between the original mods and the first skinheads. I've met a few other
hard mods at a few Oi! shows, but not kept touch. I listen to more reggae
and rocksteady than soul, and more punk and oi than pop or mod (although I
do have a very varied record collection, and will never bag on the Jam or
Small Faces, or anything like that). I also tend to dress rather similar
to the way you see most skins, but am far from having a crop. All the same,
I share a lot of modernist views (and a lot of working class views as well).
And I tend not to be as bull-headed and aggressive as the majority of
skinheads I know (although I am like any normal guy and can act dumb as an
ox on occasion as well-this may be one of those times)
