continuing on the PNW/Seattle/Portland music thread, I'll cite two more:

The Ventures, a top popular PNW combo. Wrap your ears around their go-go-go 
version of Dobie Gray's "In crowd" or Slaughter on 10th Avenue.

Apart the fact that the central area of Seattle produced a talented if 
purple guitarist ("Fire") who met the usual tragic end. Even Alex Korner dug 
him.

I believe it was longtime KJR d-jay Pat O'Day who helped launch several of 
the bands you mentioned, Sonics in particular. (what? KJR was cool?) Anyone 
else who can fill on/correct me on the PNW scene, esp. '62-'64, more info is 
welcomed.
