My mom lived next door to several members of the Kingsmen in the late 60s
in Portland...

Paul Revere & the Raiders had a weekly residency at a club in downtown
called the Headless Horseman, which is now a French bistro-type place
whose name eludes me (Helen?)...

The Kingsmen's version of "Louie, Louie" was recorded in a building which
now houses the Portland Atheist Center at 12th & W. Burnside...

There were several lesser-knowns, Doug mentioned the Jolly Green Giants
from the Teenage Shutdown comp, that same volume also featured Mr. Lucky &
the Gamblers, who started out in Newport, Oregon of all places. The North
Oregon Coast had a surprisinglyu healthy scene, led by Deep Purple-ites
Zero End from Astoria. Unfortunately, there's never been a really
definitive compilation of unkown 60s NW bands, there really ought to.
