I agree that N'Hampton is a cool place to visit..but having lived there for
three months, I can definitely tell you, there ain't any mods der.

You probably witnessed some really stylish ska kids, of which I know there are
a few that linger around there. But honestly, all you'll find there are a lot
of hardcore kids who REAAALLY like metal and a bunch of frat kids who are
straightedge.

Suburban America has it's own nitch, a whirlpool of every kind of wanna-be
there is. I'm goth, I'm sxe, I'm ska...it's like the city but all those kids
buy into the media myth's of what is in. Too many tech-vests if you ask me.

I miss N'hampton for two reasons: the record shop on Main St. and the indy
movie theatre. Other than that, it's like every other New England town that
you drive through on your way to someplace better...

I've seen a few good ones come up on this list...somebody said
Austin..probably the Artsy-Bohemian center of the South, or at least one of
the less conservative places in Dallas. I was gonna add Northampton, MA and
the surrounding area..I don't know that there is an actual Mod scene in the
Happy Valley, but you can count Terri because she used to live there, and
I've seen a number of moddish guys in 3 button jackets, skinny trousers, and
nice shoes..one guy even had a Target pin on his lapel. Another time I saw a
Velojet AND a Vespa parked on the corner of Pleasant and Pearl St. and I
think the area in general would be condusive to the lifestyle..lots of
cafes, more than a few record shops and used CD places, a great music scene,
free PVTA bus, etc. Hell if I had the cash and my degree I'd move there in a
second. The only downside is that people there are often really PC, and that
there is a large populatrion of mentally ill people (The Car Screamer, The
Bearded Lunatic who jabbers at buildings) but all and all it's a nice place.
