The story I got, from what I guess is the same shop
(Bill's Men's Shop in Berkeley), was that Clarks
suspended UK production for China but met with an
unwilling market. It seems people were outraged by the
nasty bubbly toes and a good many people in the UK
were unhappy about the further erosion of their
manufacturing base. So, he told me they have resumed
UK production and quite a few shops are stuck with the
Chinese ones. Prospective buyers should make inquiries
about UK shoe availablility before plunking down their
cash.
