Just back from New York. I don't know if anyone posted already about it as I
was "disconnected " for a few days but here we go.
I save you from a review of each band.
Standing out within the "new" bands was Mooney Suzuki which delivered a
high energy set soundin like the MC5 if they would play Freakbeat. GReat
show, but wasted as an opening band, they should have been higher up on the
bill.
Can't really say anything about The Loons, but we had a great response.
The best band for me was THE MONKS. They just kicked some serious arse and
are still so much ahead of the time. They all were dressed up in their
traditional Monk gear, the shaved hair ( at least some of them still needed
to shave ) and all.
Larry played some organ that would Brian Auger look like a school kid again.
People couldn't egt enough of them and it seemed like you were transported
back to the set of Beatclub in Germany.
The biggest surprise was The Standells who had to take the stage after the
Monks second set on Sunday and no one could see how they could possibly
follow that but they did and how they did. No new songs were played and they
sounded just as they would have in the old days. The guitar sound was
amazing and as many people pointed out, Dick Dodds voice was better than on
any recording ever heard. Highlight for me was when they played "Rari" and
"Try it".
Biggest dissapointment was Black Moon. Everyone seemed to wait for their one
hit " You must be a witch" which they didn't play ( unless I missed it
sneaking out to the bar) and they reminded me a lot of Spinal Tap, sorry to
say.
What did anyone else think who was there ?

Anja
