I think a lot of it has to do with the fact the we all know The Jam versions
so well, that if we hear a new version, we don't like it. About half of the
songs, however, are crap regardless of the fact that we like The Jam's
version better. ;-) I only like 4 songs (like, not love) on the CD:
Carnation, Art School, To Be Someone and No One In The World with Weller
singing it...When I heard Going Underground, I almost threw the CD out. I
wonder, however, if I heard this not knowing of the original, would I still
like it? Maybe, but I doubt it. I can't stand Ben Harper's Modern World.
He over pronounces every syllable. One thing that seems to be missing is
the passion in the vocals. Weller would scream a lot of his lyrics, but
this CD seems a bit tame...
