With all due respect, I feel I must suggest that it was not the nature of
your profession that offended quite so much as the manner in which you
alluded to it.

To whit: you did not so much let slip the information that you work in the
entertainment industry as much as you did trumpet the fact. Sadly the
unpleasant reputation that the film business has for being full of
self-promoting schmucks, which may or may not be deserved, was then invoked.

I'm increasingly tired of whining along these lines. Bitter sarcasm is not
an intrinsic part of modernism. A low tolerance for folly is. Every time
someone gets slated they do that "oh how very mod of you" comment which only
serves to show how desperately in need of a backbone they are.
