I recommend for you NOT to go see Astrud Gilberto. I went to see her last
year and I can honestly say it was one of the most horrible shows I have ever
been to.
1) Before she came to the show (an hour late, by the way), there was an
announcement which said "Please refrain from Smoking when Astrud is in the
building". I think that is explanatory enough.
2) Her back up band was NO Stan Getz, or Jobim. . . .it sounded like she got
her baby cousin to get his mini-casio out of the garage to come help her pick
up the tune.
3) there is a little something called Stage PRESENCE which apparently Ms.
Gilberto knows NOTHING about, it was the most bland boring show I have ever
been, her voice was nowhere as good as it used to be, and the detached bored
look is nice for a young girl who has nothing to lose, but for a 50 year old
woman, it made me want to go to sleep. There was no BOSS in that Bossa Nova.
For that I do NOT recommend Astrud Gilberto.
