trim trabs are the dog's bollox, but they just fall to bits so quick.

when in paris i bought a pair of puma (wait for it) 'paris'... i've never
seen these before and haven't seen 'em since. similar to states (a dodgy
term for trainers if ever there was one) but more fitted and detailed.
sodding uncomfortable though.

it amused me to hear once that simon fowler got knocked back from a brum
untouchables do for wearing trainers. i don't wish to debate the matter of
whether or not trainers should/should not be allowed into mod do's (it
reminds me of the CCI national mod meetings of the 80's where votes were
cast whether or not hair gel should be allowed into mod events) but picture
this....

in the original mod era, sharpness and thus one's ascent up the modernist
heirarchy was defined by dudes who would refuse to wear the same style shirt
two weeks on the run. these days, the opposite is the truth. unless you're
wearing the same old hackneyed tat year in year out that's been around for
nearly 40 years then if you're let in past the mod police you get nothing
but negative vibes from those within. hardly indicative of a scene that
could describe itself as modernist; most rallies i've been to in recent
years have the feel of fancy dress frat parties rather than something
representing a fresh, vibrant scene. i've often said that i feel more of a
mod at non-mod events where people appreciate new, different threads. one of
the most interesting tangents that weller ever took was his later style
council forays... wierd, hit and miss but it was new. of course this was
stamped on and that's why these days we're treated to the noisy dirge that
was 'heavy soul'. you can't dismiss this argument just because you don't
like frankie knuckles or because you have no desire to snog mick talbot.

you lot *are* the mod scene, not dj's or bouncers on the doors of clubs...
go and have fun with it, there's so much that's yet to be explored.

p.s.: if the mod police are online, don't bother abusing this post, you're
wasting your time... i've been ignoring you for 10 years, i'm not likely to
change now.
